Get involved!

Take your place in the neuromuscular community

Pathfinders Neuromuscular Alliance is a User-Led Organisation , meaning it is run by and for young people and adults with neuromuscular conditions. We can only succeed if everyone gets involved!

Anyone can become a Pathfinders member, meaning we’ll keep you up-to-date with everything that’s going on. It also means free tickets to all our events and some extra freebies too!

In addition, adults with neuromuscular conditions can become formal Voting Members who can vote on things like who becomes a trustee and certain charity governance matters.

Fundraise for us

Pathfinders relies entirely on grants and donations to be able to support adults living with muscle-weakening conditions. We need your help to continue our work!

If you can help us fundraise, please check out our fundraising resources to help you get started.

Work or volunteer for us

Pathfinders is always looking for volunteers to help us support adults with muscle-weakening conditions. From time to time we also have opportunities to join the growing staff team at Pathfinders and make a real difference in your work.

You can find all our latest opportunities on our employment and volunteering pages

Become a trustee

The board of trustees is the highest level of decision-making in Pathfinders. Trustees make the final decisions about what Pathfinders works on, how we are run and how we spend our money. The staff team then works hard to realise the trustees’ vision. Trustees also work hard to raise money and support the charity in its activities.

We are currently looking for people living with muscle-weakening conditions to join the trustee board. Our co-chair of trustees Sarah Rose shares her experience of being a trustee below. Please get in touch if you would like more information.

Me, a trustee - Sarah Rose

When I heard the news that DMD Pathfinders was going expand to include all Neuromuscular conditions I immediately wanted to be part of the new chapter. I wasn’t sure how at first apart from just joining as a member. However when I saw they were looking for new trustees and I found out what the role involved I thought it was the perfect fit for me. What stood out was the fact that it was a user-led organisation. It was run by people living with neuromuscular conditions thus supporting and campaigning for others with a shared experience

This new venture has been just what I needed. It has given me motivation and purpose. I’m getting to learn about how charities operate and about the amazing projects Pathfinders are already involved with. I am asked to attend a trustee meeting via zoom every three months where we discuss any pressing issues of governance and future planning as well as the day-to-day running. There is the opportunity to do more, as time and energy allow and so far I have volunteered to be a trustee representative on the Management Committee, helped with things like interviewing candidates for paid positions and attended online events.

I enjoy seeing and helping out behind the scenes. Add to that meeting and working alongside some lovely folk and it has been the best decision I’ve made in a long time. I am looking forward to gaining new skills and helping shape what’s to come. I am proud to be a trustee of Pathfinders Neuromuscular Alliance and I look forward to being part of its future.
